Multi-select lookup fields are even more complex, so, only create one if someone who knows Zoho CRM better than you tells you that one is needed.
Normal lookup fields are a one-to-one or one to many relationship. In our business use case, it links one deal to one affiliate (a Contact). Each deal has one affiliate, but, one affiliate can have many related deals.
